The Cookie Thief – A Poem about an “Unfortunate” Misunderstanding

Could you see yourself in this situation?

This is one of my favourite poems from the book, Inspirational Poems about Life and Success.  It’s called The Cookie Thief, by Valerie Cox and int clever and hilarious.

The following poem makes you think about how we judge other people. Sometimes we might find ourselves in certain situations and they might not be what they seems.

Please enjoy the poem below and let us know what you think!

    The Cookie Thief

A woman was waiting at an airport one night,
With several long hours before her flight.
She hunted for a book in the airport shops.
Bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop.

She was engrossed in her book but happened to see,
That the man sitting beside her, as bold as could be.
Grabbed a cookie or two from the bag in between,
Which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene.

So she munched the cookies and watched the clock,
As the gutsy cookie thief diminished her stock.
She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by,
Thinking, “If I wasn’t so nice, I would blacken his eye.”

With each cookie she took, he took one too,
When only one was left, she wondered what he would do.
With a smile on his face, and a nervous laugh,
He took the last cookie and broke it in half.

He offered her half, as he ate the other,
She snatched it from him and thought… oooh, brother.
This guy has some nerve and he’s also rude,
Why he didn’t even show any gratitude!

She had never known when she had been so galled,
And sighed with relief when her flight was called.
She gathered her belongings and headed to the gate,
Refusing to look back at the thieving ingrate.

She boarded the plane, and sank in her seat,
Then she sought her book, which was almost complete.
As she reached in her baggage, she gasped with surprise,
There was her bag of cookies, in front of her eyes.

If mine are here, she moaned in despair,
The others were his, and he tried to share.
Too late to apologize, she realized with grief,
That she was the rude one, the ingrate, the thief.

    Don’t Drink and Drive

    by Kayla

    Near the door
    he paused to stand
    as he took his classring
    off her hand
    and all who were watching
    did not speak
    as a slient tear
    ran down his cheek
    and through his mind
    the memories ran
    of the moments
    they walked and ran
on the sand hand in hand
but now her eyes were so terribly cold
    for he would again
    never have her to hold
    they watched in silent
    as he bent near
    and whispered the words
“i love you” in her ear
he stepped back and started to cry
as he put on his ring and wanted to die
just then the wind began to blow
    as they lowered her casket
    into the snow
this is what happens to men alive
    when friends let friends
    Drink and Drive!

    My Broken Heart

    by A. Aloysius Shorter

A broken heart is what I feel
    It leads to flowing tears
    The sorrow from this loneliness
    Gives way to deeper fears
I hurt inside from losing you
    I’m often asking why?
How could this end so suddenly?
I feel like I could die
    It wasn’t very long ago
    That you and I embraced
    It feels like only yesterday
    And now my soul’s displaced
I’m trying to find a peaceful thought
Where you and I were strong
But in the absence of your love
    My happiness has gone
For all the times we’ve laughed, we’ve hugged
And all the times we’ve kissed
For all the times we’ve made sweet love
Your touch is what I’ve missed
I truly hope there comes a day
    When love will reunite
I’ll wipe away these lonely tears
    I cry throughout the night

    You hurt i cry

    by nicky joyce

    You broke my heart
    What am i to say
    Didn’t you think
    Before you threw us away
    Why did you do it
    Was i not enough
Did you think the pain wouldn’t hurt me
Didn’t you think you would lose my trust
    Why did you hurt me
    And then hurt me more
Why do you think its sorted
And brush the probs under the door
    Why cant you see
    I`ve changed so much
    Not that i like it
But i had to get tough
This anger that eats me so
Drives me mad but i cant let it go
    I cry and scream
    But there not heard
    Want to run away
    Never be found
    But thats not right
    Nor would i be mean
I just want to find peace
Not sorrow no more for me
    No more pain please
I cant hack it you see
    Cause one day
    It will end me
    I’m not punishing myself
    Nor punishing you
But i just cant take it
    I`m black and blue.

    tell me. .

    by faye aNgeLica

so tell me you hate me
    and that you don’t care
so tell me you never did
that it was all a dare

so tell me you hate me
    that it wasn’t true
    so tell me you’re innocent
    that you thought I knew

so tell me you hate me
    that we never were
so tell me you don’t love me
that you have always loved her

so tell me you hate me
that you want me to hate you
so tell me to leave now
    and forget about you too:

so tell me you hate me
that I was never good enough
so tell me to get a life
that I need to stand and be tough

so tell me you hate me
    i tell you that too
so tell me you hate me
despite what I say, I still love you:

    Without you

    by Raymond Borkowski

    Without you
    The days are nice
    The sun shines bright
But there is no light without you

    Flowers bloom
    Leaves grow on trees
But there is no color without you

    Birds sing
    Rivers run
But there is no sound without you

    People laugh
    Children play
But all is sad without you

    Time goes on
    Day turns to night
But life stands still without you

    People meet
    Hopes expressed
But there are no feelings without you

    Adventures lived
    Experience gained
But there is no meaning without you

    Work is done
    Time’s put in
But there is no value without you

    Prayers are said
    God is begged
But still I am without you

    When all is said
    This life I dread
    Every day without you

Poet From a Tiny Island Nation Shames The World Leaders

Passionate Poem on Climate Change Hits Home

This is an incredible poem that brought a standing ovation from all the world leaders.

Jatnil-Kijiner talks passionately in her poem about the effects of climate change, especially in her own country. Her poem addresses her land, her ‘mother’, and promises that they as a nation will not let her down.

I wouldn’t expect such a presentation at this event, but I was pleasantly surprised that her voice could be heard in such a compelling way. The video below is from 2014, but I believe the message will stay for a longer time yet.

    Check it out.

Presidents and diplomats aren’t the only ones calling for climate action at the United Nations. During the opening ceremony of today’s climate summit, Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner—a 26-year-old poet from the Marshall Islands—spoke eloquently about the threat that rising seas pose to her country.

Jetnil-Kijiner warned delegates of the high price of inaction and described the current challenge as a “race to save humanity.”

  • (VIDEO) A Controversial Poem on Rape

(VIDEO) A Controversial Poem on Rape

Why so many Damn Rape Poems?

This poem by Justice Hehir, Lindsey Michelle Williams, Kate Thomas, and Lillie Hannon is receiving quite a bit of heat on this controversial topic.

It’s a powerful poem that says America needs to listen to as many rape poems as it takes, until they truly hear the pain and traumas of victims. Of course there are those who believe that what a woman wears and how she acts would change this anyway and the poets are quickly boxed as irrational ‘feminists’. Despite the positive and negative feedback this poem has gone viral and for good reason.

“Our bodies were ours alone. If everyone knew what NO meant. If Budweiser stopped selling our bodies stretched across a six pack. If everyone would listen to THIS ONE.”
