    Read “The Cinnamon Peeler”

One of The Most Beautiful Poems by Michael Ondaatji

If I were a cinnamon peeler
    I would ride your bed
And leave the yellow bark dust
    On your pillow.

Your breasts and shoulders would reek
You could never walk through markets
without the profession of my fingers
floating over you. The blind would
stumble certain of whom they approached
    though you might bathe
    under rain gutters, monsoon.

    Here on the upper thigh
    at this smooth pasture
    neighbour to you hair
    or the crease
that cuts your back. This ankle.
You will be known among strangers
    as the cinnamon peeler’s wife.

I could hardly glance at you
    before marriage
    never touch you
–your keen nosed mother, your rough brothers.
    I buried my hands
    in saffron, disguised them
    over smoking tar,
    helped the honey gatherers…

    When we swam once
I touched you in the water
    and our bodies remained free,
you could hold me and be blind of smell.
you climbed the bank and said

this is how you touch other women
the grass cutter’s wife, the lime burner’s daughter.
    And you searched your arms
    for the missing perfume

    and knew

    what good is it
to be the lime burner’s daughter
    left with no trace
as if not spoken to in the act of love
as if wounded without the pleasure of a scar.

    You touched
    your belly to my hands
in the dry air and said
    I am the cinnamon
    Peeler’s wife. Smell me.

Take a look at Miachel Ondaatji reading The Cinnamon Peeler to a group of avid listeners.

The way he reads really brings the poem to life. You can almost see the images flash in your brain and smell the cinnamon permeating the air as the poem draws to an end.

It’s a completely different experience when an author reads their own work. They don’t always pause when you pause or have the same rhythm in their voice as they dance over the words.

    It’s a whole different experience.

Richard Armitage Would Like To Read You Romantic Poetry *swoon*

His Voice Just Makes it a MILLION Times Better!

If you don’t know who Richard Armitage is, it’s time to get educated!

You might have glimpsed his stoic, debonair form in North & South, or his unforgettable role in The Hobbit. Two vastly different roles, but that just shows how talented the man is!

I have a friend who goes berserk every time she sees him and I can sort of see why. Not only is he easy on the eyeballs but he does have a deep, rough, velvety voice.

And when he reads poetry… the effect is well… how about you listen for yourself!

Listen to Richard read “I Carry Your Heart” by E.E.Cummings.

7 Cheesy Lies of Poetry You Secretly Want Them To Use

Would You Give This To Someone You Loved?

Poetry is a beautiful way to express how you feel. But at the same time it is not something we usually advertise. Well at least not me. In today’s culture it’s flowers, chocolate, or gifts that express our affection, a far cry from the past where music and words penned on paper were the norm.

We can write poetry ourselves and we can read it, but one of the most beautiful moments is when we give or receive it.

Here are some cheesey lines of poetry some of us wouldn’t mind getting.

    1.

    2. ” When he wanted to take her picture, he didn’t tell to smile, but told her, “I love you” and her smile was more beautiful.”

    3.

    POT2

    4. “Sometimes you can’t explain what you see in a person. It’s just a way they can take you to a place where no one else can.”

    5. “Seduce my mind and you can have my body, find my soul and I’m yours forever.”

    6.

    POT3

    7. She was beautiful, but not like those girls in the magazines. She was beautiful, for the way she thought. She was beautiful, for the sparkle in her eyes when she talked about something she loved. She was beautiful, for her ability to make other people smile, even if she was sad. No, she wasn’t beautiful for something as temporary as her looks. She was beautiful, deep down to her soul. She is beautiful.

    ~ F. Scott Fitzgerald
